Bova UK is a Specials Manufacturer dedicated to the veterinary market and is regulated by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD).

Currently servicing the equine, small animal (dog and cat), and exotic markets, there are over thirty new products scheduled for release in 2018.

The company is the first in the UK to hold a ManSA license (Manufacturer ‘Specials’ Authorisation) to manufacture sterile and non-sterile products and can be used in compliance with the:

Section 4.15 of the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct states: ‘If there is no suitable authorised veterinary medicinal product in the UK for a condition in a particular species, a veterinary surgeon may, in particular, to avoid unacceptable suffering, treat the animal in accordance with the ‘Cascade’.

The Synthetic Flavourings used at Bova UK does not contain animal protein and will increase in choice as the business grows. The flavours available, which are widely popular, include:

  • Molasses
  • Chicken
  • Grilled Chicken
  • Roast Chicken

The well-established quality culture ensures that the business remains compliant with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good laboratory practices (GLP) as per the European Medicine Standards.

All raw materials and finished products are tested against set standards as per ICH guidelines. Bova UK is due to open its newly built analytical laboratories to perform stability studies on new & existing products to monitor and improve product quality and patient safety.

The high-tech equipment used in Bova UK laboratories include:

  • High-Performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
  • Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
  • Stability Chambers for real-time and accelerated stability studies
  • Fumigation Chambers

Bova (global) heavily invests in R&D through Luoda Pharma, a virtual biopharmaceutical company that is closely aligned with Bova (global),  which Nicholas Bova co-founded.

Specials Manufacturing is also referred to as compounding, extemporaneous preparations, and unlicensed medications, depending on the country and standards adhered to. Bova UK is one of few licensed manufacturing facilities by the VMD, and the only licensed by the VMD to manufacturer sterile and non-sterile Specials in the UK for the veterinary market.
